One of the first things new visitors will notice upon arriving at your website is your header,so making website headers creative and attractive. Creative header designs are quickly becoming a growing trend in website design. The header is still the default area for placing logos and navigation, but the manner in which they are being placed is a different technique altogether. These header images are all very lush, complex and “artsy.” The problem is that some of them are actually TOO busy — although they’d be perfect for artists sites where the website owner wants to profile their sophisticated artistic talent. I think sometimes we need to find a better balance between usability/readability and design sensibility, and somehow I can’t see a serious news site, financial site, or even an online store choosing that excessively splashy header style. I think the best headers are stylish and evoke a mood but don’t take you out of the page — don’t send you off on some visual tangent — and actually reinforce and support the site visitor’s comprehension and absorption of the material on the site.
In short – if your header is TOO splashy or complicated, you can have high bounce rates. Yet if it’s too minimalist and boring, people won’t be excited when they visit your site. It’s all about balance, I think.
